Saddle up for one last adventure as Wynonna Earp returns later this year. The series was abruptly canceled following its fourth season back in 2021, leaving plenty of stories left untold for the supernatural western show. However, it is getting resurrected for a 90-minute special, though Wynonna Earp: Vengeance’s release date is still up in the air.
Wynonna Earp was a rare instance of a show that didn’t get canceled because of slipping ratings or a difficult cast. In fact, Syfy had already ordered a fifth season shortly after its fourth season aired. Instead, it was funding issues at IDW Entertainment that saw the series abruptly end back in 2021. It has taken a few years and a lot of fighting for rights and funding, but the show is set to be revived with a film special, though when that will happen still isn’t entirely clear.
There is still no release date for Wynonna Earp: Vengeance, which is meant to be filmed in summer 2024 for a release date later in the year. The special will also see a change in networks, with the free ad-supported streaming platform Tubi giving Wynonna and Doc Holliday’s last ride a home. Previous seasons had been aired on Syfy in the US and Netflix internationally. It is a change for both the series and the network – Tubi is best known for its reality TV and unscripted shows. This will be one of the platform's first scripted programs.
The movie special Wynonna Earp: Vengeance should air on Tubi sometime in late 2024, though an exact release date hasn’t been announced yet.
