The new Willy Wonka doesn't actually like chocolate bars, apparently
Guess what Timothée Chalamet has in common with your elderly grandmother
The only thing we know about Willy Wonka - other than his incredibly lax approach to health and safety legislation - is that he loves chocolate. In fact, he loves it so much so that it's become his life’s work, with the help of a cadre of Oompa Loompa employees. However, it doesn’t seem to be a passion shared by the most recent person to play Wonka in film, Timothée Chalamet.
The star revealed that he isn’t a fan of chocolate bars while out promoting the upcoming film, Wonka. When asked by reporters what his favorite chocolate was, Chalamet was perplexed for a moment before answering “chocolate-covered raisins” or, even more controversially, Milk-Duds, two answers that no one under 65 would normally give.
We don’t want to cast shame on someone for their personal preferences, but... chocolate-covered raisins? Really? That isn’t even in the top five choices for most people, ranking somewhere below a generic chocolate bar and plain Hershey’s Kisses. Who knew that Timothée Chalamet had something in common with everyone’s grandmother?
The clip posted to Deadline Hollywood does reveal the high esteem that Chalamet has for Gene Wilder’s iconic and timeless performance in 1971’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, as well as the hard work he put into upping his song and dance skills for Wonka, but the main takeaway we’re getting from the interview is that this Willy Wonka apparently isn’t a fan of chocolate bars.
Chalamet will be joined by Hugh Grant in the Wonka cast, which brings the origin story of the world’s most famous chocolatier to the big screen on 8 December in the UK and 15 December in the US.
