As our beloved childhood stories age, it becomes inevitable that every possible story will get told with their characters. At least, until those characters eventually pass out of copyright and land in the hands of the general public who can do wonderous and terrible things with their newfound power. That magical moment is what spawned 2023’s Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and its upcoming sequel, which has already dropped its first trailer.
Less than a year after the first movie landed at the box office, a sequel is already in the works and due out later in 2024. Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2’s first trailer promises a more deadly adventure with a bigger budget and more impressive deaths. Gone are the cheap and rushed costumes for Pooh, Piglet, and Owl – for the first time, these beloved childhood companions actually look terrifying. The studio also released a new key art for the film which shows off these new costumes in all their glory. Considering the original made more than $6 million in ticket sales on a meager $100,000 budget, we're not surprised this one is getting a bigger investment.
The plot of Blood and Honey 2 appears to pick up straight after the events of the first movie, with Christopher Robin once again being hunted by his childhood friends. This time, they’re not confined to the Hundred Acre Woods and have ventured out into the town of Ashdown to find Christopher and exact their deadly revenge. Hopefully no innocent kids get shown this film at school by mistake.
There is a new addition to the cast of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 as Tigger, who was absent from the first film, joins the fray. The character entered the public domain in January 2024, which means he’s now fair game. Just don’t expect him to do much singing and bouncing as that version is still very much owned by Disney.
Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 is due out sometime in 2024, though a more specific release date hasn’t been announced yet.
