James Gunn and long-time partner Peter Safran are building a creative team for this bold new future that is the modern DC cinematic universe, and now they've recruited another veteran writer/director to the fold: Superbad's Greg Mottola.
As first reported by Deadline, Mottola will direct multiple episodes of Gunn's Peacemaker season 2. This will actually be Mottola's second recent franchise work, after 2022's Fletch reboot Confess, Fletch.
Since 2007's Superbad, Mottola has directed a number of comedies including Adventureland and Keeping Up with the Joneses, and also ventured into dramatic TV with Aaron Sorkin's The Newsroom.
Peacemaker season 2 will in many ways act as a bridge between the previous DC cinematic universe (known as the DCEU) and the one Gunn and Safran are officially launching with 2025's Superman. (Late 2024 will see the animated Creature Commandos debut on Max first, however) The first season of Peacemaker took place firmly in the DCEU continuity, and Gunn has said parts of it continue to exist in this modern DC cinematic universe.
According to Deadline, Peacemaker season 2 is to be set immediately after the events of 2025's Superman. With that, we expect Peacemaker season 2's release date to be sometime following Superman's July 11, 2025 release date. The show is currently in production, as recently revealed by Gunn on social media.
