The Star Wars universe is full of danger. Most of the films have depicted a galaxy either at war or hurtling towards it, which sets the stage for plenty of drama and conflict. The Acolyte takes place over a century before The Phantom Menace introduced us to Anakin Skywalker and set the stage for the Galactic Empire, but that doesn’t mean it is completely removed from conflict. How intense that conflict will be is reflected in The Acolyte’s age rating.
While we know that Star Wars: The Acolyte takes place in a time when the galaxy isn’t at open war, the age rating implies that it will have a similar level of violence and peril to existing shows in the franchise. The age rating for Star Wars: The Acolyte is TV-14 in the US and 12+ in the UK. According to the Amazon-owned IMDb, Star Wars: The Acolyte carries warnings for 'Sex & Nudity,' 'Violence & Gore,' 'Profanity,' 'Frightening & Intense Scenes, and 'Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking.'
While you might be taken aback from a Star Wars show having 'Sex & Nudity,' the Mandalorian also carried that warning despite no obvious nudity or sex scenes. That being said, a 'lead intimacy coordinator' named Adelaide Waldrop has said she'd been hired to work on the show.
This is the same age rating that The Mandalorian was given, owing to its depiction of non-graphic violence and some swearing. If you’re wondering if your own younglings can handle watching The Acolyte, it might be a good idea to check out The Mandalorian first and make a decision based on that.
Judging by the fact that Carrie-Anne Moss was brought into the cast of The Acolyte to bring her experience as Trinity in The Matrix films – the showrunner has described Moss’ character as “Trinity with a lightsaber” – we know that the latest entry in the Star Wars universe won’t hold back on the action. With its age rating of TV-14, just don’t expect that action to get too intense.
