You would believe a man could… get dressed before saving the world. James Gunn has released the first look at David Corenswet as DC Studios’ Superman, and it’s an understated look that shows the hero getting ready to save the day.
Released on Instagram, the image — captioned simply by Gunn with “Get ready. #Superman 7.11.25” — features the hero pulling on a boot as… something is happening outside his window in the skies above Metropolis. (Is it a Lex Luthor-created laser? Is it something to do with The Engineer, who’ll be played by Maria Gabriela de Maria in the movie ahead of the upcoming The Authority feature? Could it be an understated tease of a Livewire appearance? We have no idea!)
The choice of reveal of Corenswet in costume for the first time is an interesting one — unlike the image that revealed Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel more than a decade ago, this isn’t an action pose (no pun intended for the hero who’s called Action Comics his home for 85 years); it’s something that makes Superman seem more relatable, just as the scuffed and damaged costume does. This is a Superman who isn’t necessarily impervious to harm, but he goes out and does the job no matter what… a Superman that audiences will be able to empathize with more easily than before, perhaps.
Take a look at the image for yourself:
