The first trailer for Star Wars: The Bad Batch's third and final season looks epic and has one final surprise we couldn't have predicted in a million years.

Lucasfilm Animation's latest regular series will wrap its Disney+ run starting on February 21, the companies have revealed with the explosive trailer and via social media. Season 3 will begin with a three-episode premiere and then follow a weekly release schedule until May 1, just ahead of the May the 4th celebrations which are surely coming our way.

Like any memorable second act, the second volume of The Bad Batch ended with a huge blow to our heroes: Tech sacrificing himself to save the rest of the team and seemingly falling to his death. Things didn't improve after that, with Omega later being captured by the Imperial forces and taken to the top-secret installations in Mount Tantiss. Season 3 will of course focus on Omega's likely rescue and Crosshair's potential redemption (a recurring theme in Star Wars), all while the Empire and Palpatine appear to be working towards the secret plan which allows him to be resurrected decades later. Watch out for Commander Wolffe, Fennec Shand, and Cad Bane cameos too!

Moreover, this final season is bringing back beloved Nightsister-turned-assassin-turned-Sith-turned-bounty-hunter Asajj Ventress into the fold, a move that has been kept under wraps and that absolutely no fan saw coming. She's by far one of the most fascinating Star Wars characters born in the animated realm, and her return is surprising because of her death in the canon novel Dark Disciple. Her anticlimactic demise never sat well with a large portion of the fandom, so it makes sense that she's the latest character to be brought back to life, though StarWars.com teases her comeback "will align with the events" of that book.
