A lot happened across Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023, with the size and scope of a galaxy far, far away expanding as a result of news broken at the four-day event in London, England. If you missed out, don’t worry; we’re right here to catch you up.

Ahsoka gets a release date (kind of) and a major villain gets revealed

There was a poster reveal and a trailer drop for the upcoming Disney+ series on Thursday morning, the latter of which revealed something officially confirmed the next day: that David Tennant is returning to voice Huyang the droid in the new series, reprising his Star Wars: Rebels role. He’s not the only one, as it turned out — Lars Mikkelsen is going to bring Grand Admiral Thrawn from animation to live action in the new series, it was announced. The show is going to debut at some point in August; I think many people are going to be very excited.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew might be the best-directed show on television

Talking about shows that are going to get people excited, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew introduced its cast to the world, shared a trailer with fans at the show, and revealed its directing line-up, which features Daniels, David Lowery, Jake Schreier, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Lee Isaac Chung — an impressive collection of talent by any stretch of the imagination. The show is currently in post-production, having finished filming earlier this year.

The Acolyte brings in a High Republic character

Leslye Headland was onstage not once, but twice, at the show, talking about the upcoming The Acolyte — which attendees of the Friday Lucasfilm Studio Showcase saw an exclusive trailer for — and revealing that one of the characters from Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The High Republic will show up in the series, played by Rebecca Henderson. (The show is set in the period between The High Republic and Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, so it makes some sense.)

Andor is coming back, but not for awhile

Bad news, everyone; Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy told fans that the second season of the hit show probably won’t be appearing on Disney+ before August 2024. Yes, that’s basically a year and a half away, but you can’t rush the good stuff. Gilroy also said that they’re about halfway through production on the series, with filming likely to finish in August this year; speaking about the fact that the second season of the show is already intended as its final season, he called the choice one ‘born of survival, but creatively it’s been amazing.”

There are not one, not two, but three new Star Wars movies coming

Perhaps the biggest news of the show, though, was the announcement of three new feature films in development in the Star Wars galaxy, including one set 15 years after the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and seeing the return of Daisy Ridley. The three movies are set literally thousands of years apart, and their announcement was accompanied by a new timeline graphic for the franchise that expands the canonical timeline significantly backwards and forwards. This is the origin of a new Star Wars saga — maybe more than one — and it happened at Star Wars Celebration Europe.
