Star Trek reboot cast reuniting for 4th and final voyage, now with a new writer

Steve Yockey, who developed Netflix's Dead Boy Detectives, will pen the script

Some bittersweet news for all you Trekkies out there - the fourth film in the Star Trek reboot series (or Kelvin timeline, for the initiated) has found its writer. The downside of that, though, is that this writer will be penning the script for what Paramount calls the "final" film in the series.

According to Variety, Star Trek 4 will be written by Steve Yockey, whose work stretches from MTV's Scream to Max's The Flight Attendant. Most recently, Yockey's name has been bouncing around the Sandman fandom, as he was the developer behind upcoming Netflix adaptation Dead Boy Detectives.

Though the news of one last adventure for the beloved crew is disheartening, fans can at least take comfort in the fact that the headlining cast will all reportedly be back to wrap up the story. This includes Chris Pine as Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldaña as Uhura, Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy), John Cho as Mr. Sulu and Simon Pegg as Scotty.

I suppose if this has to be the last voyage, at least it’s in the hands of a great crew.

One last entry to this captain’s log before signing off - though Kirk and Co. may be docking their last, it seems like Paramount has more plans for the reboot (Kelvin) timeline. According to Variety’s article, a new project is also in the works, to serve as a prequel to the Chris Pine-starring films.

Perhaps this final frontier isn't so final after all.
