Jigsaw is back.

Five years after 2017’s Jigsaw saw him play a posthumous game and two years after a copycat killer stole his MO in 2021’s Spiral, the real John Kramer, AKA Jigsaw, will return properly to the big screen in Saw X. And Popverse has a first look with the above movie still.

Now, fans of the franchise know that the infamously brilliant serial killer died after the events of Saw III. But don’t think there’s any Friday the 13th resurrection magic or Halloween body-swapping going on. Saw X will actually be set between the events of Saw I and Saw II, with Tobin Bell’s notorious villain headed international to seek a cure for his cancer. Lionsgate said this in a recent press release:

John Kramer (Tobin Bell) is back. The most disturbing installment of the Saw franchise yet explores the untold chapter of Jigsaw’s most personal game. Set between the events of Saw I and II, a sick and desperate John travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer – only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. Armed with a newfound purpose, the infamous serial killer returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through devious, deranged, and ingenious traps.

Sounds like snake-oil gone sideways for these screwed swindlers, but we’ll have to wait until the movie hits to find out just what fate awaits them. Saw X comes to theaters September 29, 2023.

There's plenty of horror headed to San Diego Comic Con 2023, and if you love the genre but can't make it, Popverse has you covered with a multitude of liveblogged panels. May we suggest you check out the one for DC's Knight Terrors?
