What does the Sandman sound like? Tom Sturridge explains how he created Morpheus' voice (with Neil Gaiman's help, of course)
What does Morpheus sound like? Not like Batman, according to the actor
The Sandman became a hit sensation when it debuted on Netflix in 2022, and it's safe to say a contributing factor to the series success was the superb performances by the cast. Tom Sturridge, who plays Morpheus/Dream, one of the seven Endless, and overall super powerful cool guy, was a particular standout.
During an appearance at London's MCM Comic Con, Tom discussed the show and character in an extended Q&A with fans, and revealed how he discovered the voice of Morpheus for the show.
“You become so intimate with Morpheus, and you get to the end of it and you think you’ve lived a life with him, and then you ask yourself, 'what does his voice sound like?,' Sturridge explained. “I asked Neil [Gaiman] in the beginning; it was my first question. I said, 'What does he sound like!?' Because I don’t know and I’m afraid, and he said, 'It’s very simple. He is the voice inside your head.'”
Curious what Neil Gaiman meant by that? Watch the full video below:
