Our Flag Means Death season 2 trailer teases return of Blackbeard's updo

We loved it in season 1 ep 5, now it's returning

We first glimpsed this glorious hairstyle in Our Flag Means Death season 1 episode 5 (a.k.a. that episode about passive aggression), and now we're seeing it's comeback (or comb-back???). Oh yes, the brand new Our Flag Means Death season 2 official trailer shows us many new things, but possibly the most exciting thing is the return of Taika Waititi's Blackbeard updo.

We first catch this updo when Blackbeard is manning the ship's wheel, looking a bit wistful. It's a short glimpse, but it's fairly obvious - his hair is most definitely up. Now whether it's up in a bun or a ponytail (or even a French twist - who knows?), we cannot quite decipher. But that isn't the only time the updo makes an appearance.

Blackbeard's hairstyle shows up twice more in the trailer, once when Blackbeard is telling some offscreen person(s), "Yeah I had a very rough night last night." The trailer then humorously cuts to a clip of Blackbeard crying in bed (though, as this is a trailer, that may not be the actual context of the quote - or the hairdo). The third appearance seems to be a continuation of the same scene, as Blackbeard very confidently states, "It's a new day. No more booze. No more drugs. And more importantly, no more Stede." Of course, you can guess how that turns out.

We know that Our Flag Means Death is taking on a new style for its season two, even bringing on a new costume designer to bring a “Mad Max, Streets of New York feel” to the show. We can see this new look already in the trailer - while we see some plain looking pirate costumes, at other moments, the crew looks pretty rock and roll.

So where does Blackbeard's updo fit into this new style? Well, we'll have to wait and see. Lucky for us, the show will be debuting in a mere few weeks, so we wont have to wait too long.
