The battle to be the biggest comic con in Los Angeles is heating up, and LA Comic Con might have the high ground over the historic WonderCon this year.

Los Angeles Comic Con, which takes place this year on October 4 through 6, has announced Star Wars star Ewan McGregor will one of its headliner guests this year as the company looks to top its 2022 record-setting attendance of 126,000.

"L.A. Comic Con loves the challenge that the fans give us each year to make the next show bigger, broader and more diverse, and to bring them guests and experiences they've never had before,” says Chris DeMoulin, CEO/GM of Los Angeles Comic Con parent company CEI.

McGregor has become a frequent face at major cons, appearing in the last 12 months at New York Comic Con, MegaCon, Tokyo Comic Con, and Fan Expo San Francisco.

LACC sources tell Popverse that McGregor is one of four to five major guests it has planned for this year's three-day event, adding that McGregor is one of LA Comic Con's top 5 most requested guests by fans from previous events.

For those that can't make it to LACC, the convention has signed a deal with IGN for it to stream panels from the convention. The deal comes at a point where IGN is getting more into the live event space with its own IGN Live event taking place this summer.

This news comes as LA Comic Con and WonderCon are competing to be the biggest comic con in the LA area. This time last year, LACC stated in a press release it was the "largest event for comics, gaming, sci-fi, and pop culture" area, and its 122,000 attendance number is double what the last reported numbers for a WonderCon were - 66,000 in 2018.

Los Angeles Comic Con takes place October 4 through 6 this year at the L.A. Convention Center, and tickets are on-sale now.

Here's a list of all the major comic cons on the horizon.
