Touring Nickelodeon's 90s-themed SDCC 2023 booth (and how we avoided being slimed)

Whether you’re a kid of the ’90s or a kid of today, the Nickelodeon booth at San Diego Comic-Con 2023 is ready to fulfill some dreams — even if the slime of today is entirely virtual. (Look, if nothing else, it’s far easier to clean up.)

Taking up 1,800 square feet, the Nickelodeon booth at #4113 on the show floor of the San Diego Convention Center gives fans multiple opportunities to visit their favorite worlds, including a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem-themed display, complete with a 12-foot-long skateboard, and a recreation of the restaurant from the upcoming Good Burger 2 movie, complete with Good Shake machine and a chance to play Good Burger Smash for the brave. Avatar: The Last Airbender fans can discover their own element by answering a personality quiz.

If you’re looking for some takeaways, there’s a “deli” offering exclusive Avatar: The Last Airbender, TMNT, and Nick merchandise, as well as a customized t-shirt and flip-flop station, where fans get the chance to design their own individualized merch featuring one (or many!) of 15 Nick shows and characters; after using the touchscreen menus, items are ready for pop-up within minutes. For those still looking for more, don’t worry: the booth is also hosting giveaways of exclusive merch and posters throughout the entire weekend.

Much of this year’s booth is themed around the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem movie, and the Turtles themselves will be present for much of the show, in new costumes reflecting the characters’ designs from the movie. They weren’t there when we stopped by, but we were assured by a helpful booth worker, “The Turtles will be here soon. They’re just getting a snack.” That had better be pizza…!
