Train to Busan director Yeon Sang-ho is doing his first US project... and it's horror

35th Street is headed to theaters from Yeon and TriStar pictures, but no other details have been released

In 2016, Yeon Sang-ho gave the world the creeps with hit zombie flick Train to Busan. Then, in 2020, Yeon struck again with Train to Busin Presents: Peninsula, a zombie sequel. Now, director Yeon Sang-ho is taking his talents stateside, teaming up with TriStar pictures for a mysterious project known only as '35th Street.'

Details about the project came from Deadline on June 5, and sadly, there weren't many of them. Yeon is bringing Peninsula writer Ryu Yong-jae for the ride, but those are the only two names attached to the film so far. We also know that the movie is described as an "action/horror film," but what that means is still unclear.

This announcement is a great time to point out, however, that zombies aren't Yeon's only contribution to the horror genre. Recently-released apocalyptic horror Hellbound was also directed by Yeon, and is currently available to stream on Netflix. Like Train to Busan, Hellbound is a story of a global catastrophe from a personal point of view, so perhaps Yeon's next project will have the same kind of scale?

I don't know, though. 35th Street sounds pretty local.

Grant DeArmitt: Grant DeArmitt (he/him) likes horror, comics, and the unholy pairing of the two. He has written for Nightmare on Film Street and Newsarama, despite their better judgement. He lives in Brooklyn with his partner, Kelsey, and corgi, Legs.
