It’s been years, but Paddington is back, and everything is good with the world again. Well, unless you’re trying to take a passport photo, of course.

The first trailer for Paddington in Peru — the first Paddington movie since 2018’s Paddington 2 — has been released, showing the friendliest bear returning to his homeland to visit his Aunt Lucy… although, as should only be expected with this series, things don’t go exactly as planned.

According to StudioCanal, the movie “brings Paddington's story to Peru as he returns to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who now resides at the Home for Retired Bears. With the Brown Family in tow, a thrilling adventure ensues when a mystery plunges them into an unexpected journey through the Amazon rainforest and up to the mountain peaks of Peru.”

In addition to a returning cast that includes Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, and Ben Wish as the voice of Paddington, the movie features Emily Mortimer, Antonia Banderas, and the great Olivia Colman as the Reverend Mother in charge of the retirement home where Aunt Lucy… well, isn’t.

Paddington in Peru is the first movie in the series not directed by Paul King, although he did work on the original story for the feature; instead, it’s directed by music video director Dougal Wilson, making his feature debut with the project. Judging by this trailer, he’s got the tone down just right — and who doesn’t love that rope tie trick?!?

Paddington in Peru hits theaters November 8 in the UK; in the US, we have to wait a little longer — it’s not out here until January 17, 2025.
