Fist of the North Star creator has seen Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga early - and asks to be George Miller's disciple
No one is immune to the unbridled joy of fandom (especially when it comes to Mad Max)

Sometimes we forget that the people who make the stuff we love also love stuff – that’s what inspired them to make the things we watch, read, and listen to, after all. So seeing Tetsuo Hara, the creator of legendary manga Fist of the North Star, giddy over seeing Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga – and even making some fanart of the title character – early is surprisingly heartwarming.
It isn’t a secret that Hara was inspired by the original Mad Max film for Fist of the North Star. You only need to look at Max Rockantansky and Kenshiro side-by-side to see that George Miller’s post-apocalyptic epic had a big impact on Tetsuo Hara. Now Hara is taking his fandom to the next level. After getting to see an early showing of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Hara commented that he was “truly humbled by the fact that [George Miller is] still showing us a new world of images. I seriously want you to make me your disciple!”
We’re not sure if George Miller is taking on any new apprentices at the moment, but that is still incredibly high praise from the man who helped define the Shonen genre as we know it. The statement was accompanied by a piece of art that Hara drew to help promote Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which shows the title character looking every bit as powerful and terrifying as she should be. It isn't the first time that Furiosa has gotten the anime treatment - the new film started life as an anime before becoming a live-action feature movie.
If, unlike Tetsuo Hara, you have to wait for the official release date to see Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, you won’t have to wait much longer. The movie hits cinemas on May 24, 2024.
