It took him 36 years, but it looks like Beetlejuice has finally pulled off his evil plan. In a sequel trailer released May 23, everyone's favorite bio-exorcist appears to have escaped Neitherworld, and is wreaking havoc in the land of the living. Watch it for yourself to see.
If you'll recall from the first Beetlejuice, the only way Michael Keaton's titular demon could escape the land of the dead was by marrying Winona Ryder's Lydia Deetz, so are we to assume that the marriage took place? Take a look at the 1:32 mark of the trailer to see Lydia back in her red birdal gown from the first movie. Then again, at the 1:42 mark, Jenna Ortega's character seems to be clad in a wedding dress, with eye makeup to indicate that she's either dead or close to it.
Whether Beetlejuice got out by marriage or some other means, it appears some menacing characters from his realm will be looking for him. In the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice trailer we meet both Beetlejuice's dead wife (played by Monica Belluci) and a deceased detective played by Willem Dafoe. Oddly, the trailer cast them both in an antagonistic light, but maybe they're just really serious about finding Beetlejuice before he does too much harm to the mortal worls.
And maybe they're absolutely in the right.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice possesses US theaters September 6, 2024.
