Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two: New release date, plot, and more
How does Ethan Hunt's latest mission end? Here's all our intel to date
The mission isn’t over yet, as the climactic moments of Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One left audiences on the edge of their seat, wondering just what comes next. The answer is, of course, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two… but what do we actually know about the next installment of the long-lived spy movie franchise? Here’s the intel that our agents have been able to gather so far.
What is the Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two release date?
If the ending of Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One left you truly impatient to see what happens next, you're going to have to wait a while longer as the film has been delayed from its original June 28, 2024 release to May 23, 2025.
Who is in the Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two cast?
A direct continuation from the previous movie, it’s no surprise that it shares essentially the same cast as Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One. Which means, expect to see the following actors:
- Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt
- Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell
- Henry Czerny as Eugene Kittridge
- Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn
- Hayley Atwell as Grace
- Vanessa Kirby as Alanna Mitsopolis
- Esai Morales as Gabriel .
- Pom Klementieff as Paris
- Shea Whigham as Jasper Briggs
- Greg Tarzan Davis as Degas
Additionally, a number of interesting new additions have been announced for the movie, not least of which is Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham. Who is she going to play? We’ve got a year to find out…
What is the Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two plot?
Picking up directly from where Dead Reckoning Part One left off, Ethan and the team are still trying to save the world from Gabriel and everything he represents, all while avoiding their hunters from the shadowy intelligence collective The Community. Can the Entity be stopped before it destroys the very idea of objective truth? Is the internet inherently evil? I’d make a joke about it never being easy to be Ethan Hunt, but if it were, they’d have to retitle the series Mission: Pretty Reasonable, All Things Considered.
Is Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two the last one?
Despite initially teasing the Dead Reckoning two-parter as a farewell to Ethan Hunt, Tom Cruise has recently said that he plans to keep playing the character until he’s 80, which means that we’ve got just under two decades of Impossible Missions to watch out for.
Is there a trailer for Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two?
The official, and technically true, answer to this question is “no,” although it’s also not entirely incorrect to suggest that Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One is actually a very good trailer for Part Two, if a somewhat overlong one at 163 minutes. (Less snarkily: start looking for a real trailer for this movie in early 2024.)
Why is Jeremy Renner not in Mission: Impossible anymore?
Jeremy Renner appeared in two Mission: Impossible movies — 2011’s Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, and 2015’s Mission: Impossible: Rogue Nation — before being surprisingly absent from 2018’s Mission: Impossible — Fallout. The reason for that was practical, in that Renner wasn’t available for filming due to commitments to the MCU (ironically, he wasn’t actually filming anything for Marvel during the Fallout shoot; it’s simply that Marvel essentially put him on call for that entire period). His absence from that movie didn’t go unnoticed, leading many to wonder if he’ll show up in Dead Reckoning at some point… although, given that he’s still recovering from his near-fatal snow plow accident at the start of the year, that seems unlikely as of writing.
