The height of World War II was filled with no shortage of drama, as evidenced by the multitude of films and series based on that pivotal point in history. Masters of the Air, the upcoming WWII drama that counts both Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg among its executive producers is set to debut later this month, highlighting the grueling story of the 100th Bomb Group and how they earned the nickname the Bloody Hundredth.

Originally, filming began back in 2021, but the lingering pandemic meant that there were multiple delays to the production schedule. Masters of the Air will debut on January 26, 2024, with the first two episodes airing on Apple TV+. New episodes will drop each Friday after that throughout the nine-episode season.

Masters of the Air is based on Donald L. Miller’s book Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany. Bringing both Hanks and Spielberg together again, the series serves as a companion to their previous World War II collaborations, Band of Brothers and The Pacific. The involvement of two of Hollywood’s most celebrated individuals and the reported budget of $250 million means that expectations are incredibly high for this series even before the first episode is released.

The series will follow the 100th Bomb Group, which earned the nickname the Bloody Hundredth due to the heavy losses it incurred during combat missions. The cast includes Austin Butler, Callum Turner, Anthony Boyle and Doctor Who’s Ncuti Gatwa. The first two episodes will air on Apple TV+ on January 26th, 2024.
