Marvel's Silk is going to be a TV hero, thanks to Sony, Amazon and MGM+
The Spider-Man supporting character is headed to television in a new series headed by the showrunner for The Walking Dead
Just when you thought that Marvel was re-organizing all of its television plans under one roof now that the Netflix series and the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises are back under Disney's control, along comes news of a raft of new Spider-Man related shows coming your way via Sony.
Deadline has the scoop that Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang is now attached to Silk: Spider Society, the first in a series of shows to be produced as part of a deal between Sony Pictures Television, Amazon Prime Video, and MGM+.
The series will center around Cindy Moon, the Spider-Man supporting character created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos who was bitten by the same radioactive spider that gave Peter Parker his powers. Cindy Moon first appeared in 2014’s Amazing Spider-Man #1, and adopted the Silk persona in issue #4 of the same series. The character has previously appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Avengers: Infinity War, played by Tiffany Espensen; it’s unclear whether or not Espensen will reprise the role for the new series.
As part of the deal, the series would debut on MGM+ in the US before heading to Amazon Prime Video, and the latter streamer will have international distribution rights.
In a statement about the show, Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke said, “Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Sony’s recent live-action and animated reimagining of the Spider-Man franchise has represented some of the most dynamic superhero storytelling in film. Together with Angela Kang’s creative vision, we couldn’t be more pleased to bring Silk: Spider Society to our MGM+ and Prime Video customers.”
No schedule or premiere date has been announced for the show as yet.
