Marvel hopes to launch one new X-Men series every single month starting July 2024
That's according to X-Men relaunch captain Tom Brevoort. But what would it take to make that happen, and how does it stack up against the Krakoan Age?

Thanks to longtime Marvel editor Tom Brevoort's most recent Substack post, we now have even more of an idea of the future of the X-Men line of comics. In case you haven't been keeping up, we already knew that The Krakoan Age of X-Men comics, which began in 2019, was drawing to a close, and a company-wide relaunch of the X-Men line was on its way. Just how many titles that new line would entail is still up in the air, but now, we can at least tell you what the editorial team is hoping for.
That is, a new X-Book launching every month, starting in July.
This reveal was prompted by a fan question on Brevoort's 'Man with a Hat' Substack. Specifically, a poster going simply by Mark wrote in to the substack asking "Can we expect more launches in August alongside uncanny [X-Men, by Gail Simone and David Marquez]?" Here is Brevoort's response:
"Yes, Mark. And in September and October, too. Ultimately, I’d like for there to be some X-group new #1 every single month, whether it be a major launch or merely a more targeted limited series."
Now keep in mind, this is Brevoort sharing what he hopes for the From the Ashes reboot, and not necessarily a confirmation that is will be what happens. And while we (regrettably) can't confirm that ourselves, we can take a look at what it would take to make Brevoort's dream come true. That begins by asking...
How many X-Men comics have been announced for the From the Ashes reboot?
So far, there have been nine titles announced in the X-Men from the Ashes relaunch. Here they are:
- X-Men by Jed MacKay and Ryan Stegman
- Exceptional X-Men by Eve L. Ewing and Carmen Carnero
- The Uncanny X-Men by Gail Simone and David Marquez
- Phoenix by Stephanie Phillips and Alessandro Miracolo
- NYX by Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing, and Francesco Mortarino
- X-Force by Geoffrey Thorne and Marcus To
- X-Factor, creative team TBA
- Storm, creative team TBA
- Wolverine, creative team TBA
And with these books, at least three months of Brevoort's master plan are covered. X-Men, Phoenix, NYX, and X-Force all come out in July; Uncanny X-Men comes out in August; and Exceptional X-Men hits shelves in September. You might be tempted to think that X-Factor, Storm and Wolverine make up the August, September, and October releases Brevoort references in the post, but let's not be hasty - it's entirely possible that those coud be still-unannounced books. All his message guarantees is the open slots for those months.
Still, just seeing the tip of this mutant iceberg makes a convincing case that Brevoort's idea is coming to fruition. It's too soon to know what's going to happen with the Children of the Atom after October, but nine titles over the course of three months is a good sign. Brevoort's might be an ambitious plan, but it also seems to be one that's coming together.
And yet, before we leave you, we have to ask: how does it stack up to the Krakoan Age?
How many titles comprised the Krakoan Age of X-Men comics?
Hindsight is 20/20, so understand that we know we're being a little unfair in comparing an X-Men line that's nearly finished to one that's yet to begin. But since comics is all about scaling these days, we thought we'd crunch the numbers to see how they might measure up.
The Krakoan Age of X began in 2019 with the dual House of X/Powers of X prologues. Since then, Marvel has put out a whopping 124 new titles, counting minseries, one-shots, and restared pre-existing series. Dividing that by 5 years (or 60 months, since we're talkin' comix) reveals that the Krakoan Age put out an average of two new titles a monthduring its existence.
As we've said before, the future of X-Men titles is still uncertain. But according to our math, From the Ashes is currently averaging at 3.
In case you're wondering, Tom Brevoort also explained why X-Men was being relaunched.
