As Marvel Studios readies a big return to cinemas in 2025 after this year's single-movie slate with only Deadpool & Wolverine, eyes are slowly turning to Thunderbolts, the crossover event flick which is supposed to wrap up Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Thunderbolts is bringing together a group of remarkable (anti)heroes which includes James "Bucky" Barnes, Yelena Belova, John Walker aka US Agent, Red Guardian, Ghost, and Taskmaster. Despite all the impressive creative talent involved, we still have our doubts about the studio's ability to steer the ship in the right direction after the recent streak of disappointments, but we're hoping for the best, especially with all the conceptually interesting projects Feige & co. have lined up.

When does Thunderbolts come out in theaters?

Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts previously held a July 25, 2025, slot, but has now been moved up to May 2, 2025. Its previous slot is now occupied by The Fantastic Four.

What will Thunderbolts be about?

The Thunderbolts are a team of individuals with special characteristics and abilities who are recruited by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine to undertake special missions for the CIA and the United States government. The specifics of the plot haven't been shared yet, but recent reports claim the movie mostly deals with the aftermath of what was supposed to be a 'suicide mission' during which the entire team died. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

Rumors prior to the most recent rewrites also said the plot could be partially related to Tiamut, the stillborn Celestial who's been "just there" sticking out of the ocean for a few years on the MCU's version of Earth. Other rumors also included a potential trip to the Savage Land in search of vibranium. That said, the only 'insider info' that seems pretty much confirmed at this point is Sentry (now potentially played by Lewis Pullman) being introduced and having a huge role.
