The very first Mad Max film debuted in 1979, introducing the film-going world to a new apocalyptic universe inhabited by social collapse, futuristic biker gangs, and unrelenting action. Now, Mad Max director and creator George Miller is returning again to the world of Mad Max with this summer's Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, the fifth film in the franchise.

At CinemaCon 2024 in Las Vegas, the esteemed director received an International Career Achievement in Filmmaking Award and took part in a short fireside chat for the attendees. During this chat, he shared a little about what to expect from the upcoming Furiosa and why he's returned to the same world over and over again (and plans to again).

"I keep doing them because they’re addictive. That’s why I keep coming back to Mad Max," Miller said about his return to Mad Max, according to CinemaCon social media. Miller also shared what performance from Anya Taylor-Joy caught his eye for her casting as young Furiosa, saying "With Anya, Edgar Wright showed me Last Night in Soho early on and I thought, ‘gee, she would be great for Furiosa.’"

As for those who are counting the minutes until the new movie debuts May 24, 2024, Miller shared that the "dub and mix" have been finalized just two days ago. "I cannot wait to see it because what we did with the sound, with the incredibly powerful but subtle and powerful, is incredibly exciting to me."
