Finally, they're making a live-action Legend of Zelda movie.

Nintendo is partnering with Sony to develop a live-action Legend of Zelda movie, comimg hot off the heels of the hugely-popular The Super Mario Bros. movie - a movie which earned 10 times what it cost (and was actually pretty good, to boot).

Nintendo has partnered with Avi Arad, founder and former CEO of Marvel Studios - and the key figure in Marvel's early film successes such as the Spider-Man films and the X-Men movies.

The face of Nintendo, Shigeru Miyamoto, is also involved as producer.

"This is Miyamoto. I have been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega hit films. I have asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and we have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it," Miyamoto shared on the official Nintendo twitter account.

Sony, Nintendo, Miyamoto, and Arad have already hired a director - Wes Ball, who is best known for the Maze Runner movies.

Of couse, this is something Popverse has been actively campaigning for for months now - and we even asked the official Zelda voice actor about it a while back.

"I mean, I'm going to trust that Nintendo knows what they're doing there," voice actor Patrica Summersetttold us back in May. "They clearly made some moves that have led to a lot of success with [The Super Mario Bros. Movie], indeed."

"Obviously, if anything Legend of Zelda [happens], I want to be involved in [it] whenever I can and hope to be asked to be involved in any capacity, because it's awesome. But whatever direction that goes, whether they decide to make a film or not, I have no idea. I'll probably find out when you do [laughs]."

Patricia, I hope you're reading this right now.

The Legend of Zelda movie release date has not been announced - given Hollywood is just now getting its writers back to work and its actors are still holding out for a better contract, any release date given now would be speculative at best.
