Deadline announced today that John Wick actor and all-around favorite Keanu Reeves is journeying into the world of prose fiction, and bringing a heavyweight along with him. China Miéville, weird fiction author of the Arthur C. Clarke Award-winning Perdido Street Station, is cowriting Reeves's novel, The Book of Elsewhere.

The Book of Elsewhere will be set in the same universe as comic book BRZRKR, a project created by Reeves along with comics staple Matt Kindt and artist Ron Garney. Both the new novel and comic feature the same protagonist: a lonely, immortal killer searching for identity and freedom in many lifetimes of pain. As of this writing, we don't know when in the chronology of BRZRKR The Book of Elsewhere will fit.

Of working with Reeves, author Miéville says, "I could never have predicted how generous [Reeves would] be with toys he’s spent so long creating, how glad to experiment together, how open to true collaboration. I hope readers get to experience even a fraction of the pleasure reading The Book of Elsewhere that I experienced in the writing."

Reeves heaped praise on his cowriter, calling him "one of my favorite authors" and saying that he "came in with a clear architecture for the story and how he wanted to play with the world of BRZRKR, a world that I love so much."

Though it is the only prose project slated to fit into the BRZRKR universe, it's not the only upcoming work in that world. Right now, Netflix is working on bringing BRZRKR to the screen in two ways: first, in a live-action film, and second, in an anime series. Both projects will star Keanu Reeves as the main character.

The Book of Elsewhere hits shelves July 23, 2024. You can preorder it on Amazon here.

If you read BRZRKR because you loved John Wick, here are some other things you might enjoy.

Grant DeArmitt

Grant DeArmitt: Grant DeArmitt (he/him) likes horror, comics, and the unholy pairing of the two. He has written for Nightmare on Film Street and Newsarama, despite their better judgement. He lives in Brooklyn with his partner, Kelsey, and corgi, Legs.
