Fans of shark attacks, take heed: The Jaws movies are leaving Netflix this month

The only thing scarier than the first Jaws movie is how bad the sequels are.

Just when you thought it was safe to forget to check the Netflix catalog, another great film is set to leave the streaming service at the end of the month. This time it is Jaws, which is swimming off to fresher waters along with its three sequels when it leaves Netflix at the end of December this year.

If you’re surprised to learn that Jaws had a sequel, you’ll be amazed to find out it spawned three. They didn't spend much time on the streaming service, having only arrived in September. Less than four months later, all four films are leaving Netflix on December 31, 2023, including:

The Jaws franchise is one of the most uneven in cinematic history. The first one is one of the greatest horror films of all time, featuring a remarkable soundtrack and making director Steven Spielberg a household name. Even the sequel, Jaws 2, has some redeeming moments. It plays out more like a slasher flick than it does a thriller like the original, but with several key cast members, including lead Roy Scheider, returning, it is worth a watch if you have nothing else to do. It is mostly just very forgettable, something that the first Jaws film certainly isn’t.

When you delve into the world of Jaws 3 and Jaws: The Revenge, the movies go from merely forgettable to actively terrible. They focus on the Brody family as they just can’t seem to get away from killer sharks. They go to Sea World and there are killer sharks. They run away to the Bahamas and they are hunted by yet another killer shark. These two movies are just plain bad.

Seeing the original Jaws leave Netflix is a shame. Watching its increasingly terrible sequels swim off into the wild blue yonder? That will be a late Christmas present.
