How a Daredevil & Spider-Man actor dinner almost spoiled Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: No Way Home
Andrew Garfield and Charlie Cox almost blew some of the biggest surprises in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures went to great lengths to stop the public from learning Spider-Man: No Way Home spoilers, but their efforts were almost ruined by a lunch reservation.
Prior to its 2021 release, many of the film’s surprises were still under wraps, including Charlie Cox’s cameo and the return of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. Marvel Studios has a reputation for the strict no-spoiler policy they drill into their actors’ heads. This means many of the MCU actors have to be really careful with everything they do and say.
“I forget what people don’t know, so I get really nervous,” Charlie Cox said, speaking to a convention crowd.
During an appearance at Awesome Con 2024, Cox shared the story of how an innocent lunch almost landed him in hot water with Marvel.
“When we were doing Spider-Man, my involvement in that was super super-secret, and I was only needed for one day, so it was very possible to keep me secret. But because there was COVID at the time, I had to be in Atlanta, I had to quarantine for two weeks before I could shoot, and then I was done.”
“I’m friends with Andrew Garfield, I’ve known Andrew for years. I texted him and said, ‘Do you want to have some lunch.’ Neither of us really thought about it, we were just like, ‘Yeah, let’s go ahead and get some lunch.’ I picked him up and we went somewhere. We got to this restaurant, and both of us realized, ‘Oh shit, we probably shouldn’t be photographed in Atlanta together while they’re shooting Spider-Man. That’s not a good look.’ We chose this table in this restaurant and had us both facing the wall. I think we got away with it.”
Imagine walking into an Atlanta restaurant and seeing Daredevil and Spider-Man dining together. Whether it was Andrew’s spider-sense, Charlie’s radar sense, or sheer luck, they were able to dodge the paparazzi. Still, I have a feeling the actors will be using UberEats the next time they film a secret cameo.
