Westeros is a land of magic and high politics, but it also seems to constantly be at war with itself. The second season of House of the Dragon is coming this summer and it is asking fans to pick a side in the brewing conflict within House Targaryen with a pair of new trailers told from both sides of the conflict.
One trailer, dubbed the Green Trailer, gives insight into the Aegon Targaryen’s attempts to hold onto the Iron Throne after his father’s death. The young man is surrounded by allies who seem earnest in their loyalty, but this is Westeros so you can never be sure who to trust.
By contrast, the Black Trailer is Rhaenyra Targaryen’s story as she attempts to take the throne from her younger brother, believing that their father always wished her, as the first-born child, to succeed him. She seems more intent on the path of violence that her decision has set her on than her younger brother.
Like Game of Thrones before it, House of the Dragon is telling the story of a civil war that threatens to tear the Seven Kingdoms apart and, like Game of Thrones, it seems to be giving each side of the conflict the chance to make its case to fans. While the plot feels slightly repetitive, offering the same as we had before but with more CGI dragons in the mix, if high fantasy politics and brutal inter-family conflict is your thing, it looks like House of the Dragon is ready to deliver.
Watch both trailers and decide which Targaryen has your loyalty when House of the Dragon season two debuts on June 16, 2024.
