Guillermo del Toro's take on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein for Netflix has lost Andrew Garfield, but gained rising star Jacob Elordi - as well as several other big names.

After Showbiz411's exclusive news spread around like wildfire on Sunday, January 7, Deadline quickly moved in to confirm they'd heard the same: Andrew Garfield is out, and Jacob Elordi is in Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein, which currently is preparing to shoot as soon as possible. It marks yet another major collaboration between the renowned filmmaker and Netflix.

Elordi has just had an amazing 2023 with huge roles in Emerald Fennell's Saltburn and Sofia Coppola's Priscilla, where he played Elvis Presley. Word is that he's set to play Frankenstein's Monster in Del Toro's horror feature, which would represent yet another big swing from the increasingly busy young actor. He could potentially be even bigger by now, as he was apparently offered reading for James Gunn's Superman: Legacy as Clark Kent, but turned down the massive opportunity.

Frankenstein's impressive ensemble, which already included Mia Goth (Pearl) and Oscar Isaac (Moon Knight), has also quietly added Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained), Felix Kammerer (All Quiet on the Western Front), Lars Mikkelsen (Star Wars: Ahsoka), David Bradley (The Strain), and Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth).

Del Toro is writing, directing, and producing alongside J. Miles Dale, who was a producer on Del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities, a horror anthology series, for Netflix. The project has been in the filmmaker's mind for years, but it remains to be seen if it'll be a period pic or be set in modern times.
