DC's doubles down on Green Arrow as first issue hits stands
Dark Crisis writer Joshua Williamson reveals that the new series has been extended on the day it debuts
The end of DC’s Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths might have left Oliver Queen abandoned in the wilderness, but if his friends — and creators Joshua Williamson and Sean Izaakse — have anything to say about it, he’s not going to stay there for very long... and his return will be twice as big as initially planned.
Green Arrow returns
As part of the Dawn of DC initiative, a new mini simply titled Green Arrow is going to bring together the Emerald Archer’s entire support crew in an effort to bring the iconic hero back to the DCU — but with mysterious forces standing in their way, it’s not going to be easy, even with Connor Hawke, Black Canary, Red Canary and more joining the effort.
The series launches April 25 with a first issue featuring a cover from Izaakse, as well as variants by Frank Cho, David Nakayama, and Ejikure; as with the first issue of Williamson’s upcoming Superman series, the main cover is a wraparound featuring the main cast of the title and more than a few clues about who and what to expect from the series as a whole. Take a look at it to see not only the heroes, but also the villains of the series… including Count Vertigo, Merlyn, and… Peacemaker…? Looks like this might be one of the first places to follow up on the teaser at the end of Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #7…!
DC’s advance description of the first issue of the series runs like this: “The Emerald Archer is lost, and it will take Oliver Queen’s whole family to find him! But dangerous forces are determined to keep them apart at any cost! Spinning out of Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths, Green Arrow by DC architect Joshua Williamson (Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths, Superman) and artist Sean Izaakse (Thunderbolts) is an action-packed adventure across the DCU that sets the stage for major stories in 2023!”

An extended run
Green Arrow #1 debuted April 25, the same day that Williamson revealed that DC had extended its run from six to twelve issues. "Thank you for supporting this book and making your voices heard, because I know I’ve got plenty more stories to tell with this ragtag bunch of archers," he wrote on his Substack. "To everyone that pre-ordered or spread the word about the Green Arrow series, YOU made this happen. This is the power of talking to your comic book stores and pre-ordering! You made this happen! THANK YOU!"
