While Darick Robertson has drawn virtually all of the big Marvel and DC heroes, he excels best when working on his own creations, from his dark take on superheroes in The Boys (with Garth Ennis) to his sci-fi screed Transmetrpolitan (with Warren Ellis) and his his existential crime drama Happy! (with Grant Morrison). Now, he's keen to do it again with a new franchise called Greaser.
Robertson announced Greaser as part of a Friday panel at WonderCon 2024 for the upstart new comics company Magma Comix. Robertson, who is both a writer and artist, announced the franchise will kick off with a four-part series titled Greaser: Gemini Blues. He will be writing the series, with Stephen B. Jones coming in as artist.
"[It started when I was thinking] 'What if I take my dark twisted ideas and don't drw them, and let someone else bring a new flavor to them?' - and I love what we've done with it," Robertson said at the panel, reports Popverse contributor Jules Chin Greene.
Although Robertson was keen to talk about the series happening, he was careful to not share any more details such as what the project is about, or when it would be released. He did say that he has aspirations for a sequel already, and it would go by a different subtitle under the umbrella title Greaser.
Greaser: Gemini Blues will be published by Magma Comix, a relatively new publisher founded by former IDW editor Denton Tipton with a stated intent to focus exclusively on creator-owned projects.Want to know what's coming up next in pop culture?
