Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel gets December 2023 release date
I'll take the next one—Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel will debut December 2023
The sequel to the 2021 movie Ghostbusters: Afterlife will release in theaters on December 20, 2023, reports Deadline. This sequel was previously announced by Ghostbusters: Afterlife director Jason Reitman and screenwriter Gil Kenan on June 8, Ghostbusters Day. While we still know very little about this sequel (no title has been released so far), we can assume that it will take place (at least for a bit) in New York City, where the story left off at the end of the previous film.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife debuted in 2021, after being pushed back four times due to the pandemic. Afterlife performed quite well at the box office, earning just at tad more than 200 million dollars at the box office. Afterlife starred Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, and Paul Rudd. It also featured actors reprising their roles from previous Ghostbusters films including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and Sigourney Weaver.
This Ghostbusters sequel is joining what looks to be an already busy Christmas movie season, releasing the same day as the musical adaptation of The Color Purple and on the same week as Paramount's untitled Star Trek movie and Disney's Rogue Squadron. However, it seems just different enough from those other movies that it might just stand out, especially for a moviegoer who is looking for a strong hit of nostalgia and good feels (a major part of Ghostbusters: Afterlife).
