George RR Martin's Game of Thrones has its share of draconian laws and politics, but a Game of Thrones fan convention couldn't stand for that and is being canceled.

THe organizers of Con of Thrones, an unofficial Game of Thrones fan convention, has announced they are cancelling their planned August 2023 event in Orlando due to "the increasingly anti-humanitarian legislation and atmosphere in Florida and based on additional feedback from partners, attendees, and guests."

Con of Thrones 2023 was scheduled to be held August 25 - 27, 2023 at the Hyatt Regency Orlando in Orlando, Florida, which an expected attendance of around 4000 people. The headlining guests were Indira Varma (Ellaria Sand), Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark), and Miltos Yerolemou (Syrio Forel).

Con of Thrones is one of several conventions to cancel or move out of Florida due to these laws, including PoleCon, the AnitaB.org Grace Hopper Celebration, the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses Global Surgical Conference and Expo, and the National Society of Black Engineers. That being said, other pop culture events are still happening there - from the recent Florida Supercon (a sister company to Popverse), as well as the upcoming MegaCon, Pensacon, Tampa Bay Comic Convention, Tallahasee's Infinity Con, HeroHype Orlando, and the unofficial Transformers con TFCon.

While the Con of Thrones' organizers, Mischief Management, say they could have continued, they were concerned they would not be able to create an event at "the level of event that the community expects and deserves."

This would've been the fourth Con of Thrones event held, and just months after the first official Game of Thrones con - which was run on December 2022 by Creation Entertainment.

Con of Thrones' organizers say that the hotel reservations have been automatically cancelled, and those that purchased tickets will be able to receive a refund or transfer the credit to another Mischief Management event.

Mischief Management has not announced plans to run a Con of Thrones event in another state. They run other events in New York City, Chicago, and Dallas.
