Kermit the Frog and the Five Nights and Freddy's movie have one surprising connection
Jim Henson's renowned special and visual effects company was the perfect choice to bring the scary animatronics to life.
Anyone who’s into fantasy and sci-fi movies has probably watched at least a handful of projects that featured the work of Jim Henson and the special/visual effects company he founded in 1979. After his death in 1990, Jim Henson’s Creature Shop kept filling extraordinary on-screen worlds with creatures and characters that shared physical spaces with actors, and sometimes even were front and center of the stories. Now, the company is up to do some mischief with Five Nights at Freddy’s, one of this autumn season's most anticipated movies.
The long-anticipated video game adaptation, coming on October 27 to cinemas and the Peacock streaming platform in the US, had recruited the famous company to recreate the malicious robotic creatures for the live-action adaptation by early October 2022. Blumhouse founder Jason Blum confirmed this via his own Twitter account. The announcement also included The Wind director Emma Tammi as the flick's helmer and promised a February 2023 shooting start date in New Orleans they later locked without hitting any road bumps.
The official Instagram account for Jim Henson’s Creature Shop also shared the exciting news, allowing diehard fans and those who were just curious about the project to hype themselves up. The Dark Crystal and its Netflix-released prequel series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (sadly cancelled) are an excellent example of what the artists at the company can achieve with practical effects, but their work has also been part of the Harry Potter, Batman, Muppets, and Star Wars franchises over the years, among many others.
Launched in 2014 for PC and consoles, Five Nights at Freddy’s is a horror video game series that places the player in the role of a night security guard who must remain in their office and use security cameras feeds and electronic door controls to track the movements of the animatronic horrors of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza and try to survive the night. The original game spawned several sequels and spinoffs, building a massive, dedicated following over time as well as countless fan theories about the series’ deep lore.
The Five Nights at Freddy's phenomenon is lasting longer than five nights. Get up to speed, with how to stream the movie, details on the characters and lore, getting to know the FNAF animatronics, how it fits in the canon of the games, talks of sequels, how Chuck E.
