The next big Dragon Ball anime recruits One Piece and Dragon Ball Super directors
The next step in Goku's journey is in good hands.
Dragon Ball fans have been eating good for years now. Since the end of the revival series Dragon Ball Super, there have been two stellar films to keep the iconic Shonen anime franchise going. A new series, Dragon Ball Daima is due out next year and we’re now getting more details about the team bringing this next chapter in Goku’s story to life.
The full crew details for Dragon Ball Daima are laid out in the January issue of Shueisha’s V Jump monthly magazine. In addition to confirming the return of Masako Nozawa as Goku, there are some other familiar names for Dragon Ball fans. Yoshitaka Yashima, who previously worked as an animation director on Dragon Ball Super and the Digimon franchise, and Aya Komaki, who was the series director for the One Piece anime, are both signed on as series directors for Dragon Ball Daima.
Another Dragon Ball veteran who is returning for Dragon Ball Daima is Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru. He was a key animator for the original Dragon Ball anime and has remained involved in the franchise ever since. In Daima, he will be adapting series creator Akira Toriyama’s character designs for animation. Toriyama himself is reported to be more heavily involved in this show than he has been since the Dragon Ball Z anime came to an end, having penned some of the scripts for the series himself in addition to setting the overall story plot. Yuuko Kakihara will be supervising and writing the series scripts.
Dragon Ball Daima will be the first new Dragon Ball series since Dragon Ball Super wrapped up in March 2018 and follows on from the Dragon Ball Super: Broly and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero films.
