DC Comics' second-longest running exclusive creator Ivan Reis exits to start his own horror comics
The artist of some of DC's biggest hits of the 21st century is leaving to bet on himself.
DC Comics' biggest event comic going these days is Titans: Beast World, and its drawn by Ivan Reis - one of DC's core artists for the past two decades. But after this series ends in 2024, he's done - not just with Beast World, but DC as a whole.
Ivan Reis has decided to end his 20-year relationship with DC in favor of reteaming with one of his DC collaborators, DC's former CCO Geoff Johns, on a new creator-owned project called Hyde Street. The duo worked together on such big DC titles as Green Lantern, Aquaman, Justice League, and the events Blackest Night and Brightest Day. The duo even worked together on Marvel's Avengers in the early '00s before his 20-year run at DC.
According to CCXP co-founder Ivan Costa, Ivan Reis' past 20 years at DC was under one large exclusive agreement renewed several times. We estimate that Reis would be the second-longest running artist at DC currently, onl surpassed by DC's CCO/Publisher Jim Lee - who joined DC in 1998 when he sold his comics publisher WildStorm to the company.
IT hasn't been specified if DC offered Ivan Reis more work past Titans: Beast World and a deal couldn't be reached, or if this is simply Reis looking for his next gig.
Ivan Reis' first post-DC work will be on a horror/supernatural title called Hyde Street to debut in 2024 - with a preview story slated to be included in January's Shot Machine #1 anthology.Want to know what's coming up next in pop culture?
