Daredevil: Charlie Cox thought Vincent D’Onofrio was “delusional” for believing Marvel Studios would revive their show, until they did

“I thought he was delusional”: Charlie Cox share Vincent D’Onofrio’s optimism for a Daredevil revival.

After Daredevil was cancelled, many people truly believed the series would someday return.

Charlie Cox was not one of them.

In 2018 Marvel Studios' Daredevil show on Netflix was cancelled after three seasons. Six years later, Marvel Studios is currently filming Daredevil: Born Again, which will serve as a revival of the fan favorite series. Speaking at Fan Expo Philadelphia 2023, Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio credited fan campaigns like SaveDaredevil for keeping the flame alive.

“The fan support means everything to us,” D’Onofrio said during a recent Fan Expo appearance. “During that period, it was a big deal. It was the first time for me that I was involved in a project where the voices of the fans were heard. That was pretty extraordinary, and I think that has a lot to do with SaveDaredevil.”

“It was very obvious to us at this time that there were people out there that wanted the show to continue. It wasn’t a dark period for me. I felt okay about it because I always thought it was going to come back. I supported SaveDaredevil just so I could voice my opinion of things like that, in the context of trying to save it. In my heart, and in my business mind, when you’re knocking it out of the park, you don’t get rid of it. You bring it back and make more great stuff, and make more money for the studios. I thought that was a no-brainer. They would want that again, and we would get it again.”

Charlie Cox didn’t share his optimism. “I thought he was delusional. Truly,” Cox said. “He would get on the phone and be like, ‘They’re going to call us up and we’re going to do it.’ And I’d be like, ‘You’ve got to let it go, it’s been two years buddy. It’s over.’”

“It’s true by the way, he’s not joking,” D’Onofrio said with a smile.

To be clear, it wasn’t that Cox didn’t have faith in the series or the fandom, he just believed Marvel had moved on. Thankfully, he was wrong. Still, I wonder if Vincent D’Onofrio teases him about the ‘delusional’ phone calls while they’re on set.
