Batman, Superman, Joker, and Stormwatch leading new Brave and The Bold series for DC

The title 'The Brave and The Bold' has a proud history — the original run of the series introduced fans to the Justice League of America, the Teen Titans, the Suicide Squad, and more, before becoming home to more than a decade’s worth of top-tier Batman team-up stories; it's also the title of the upcoming Batman movie from DC Studios — and it’s one that DC plans to honor with a new revival that will place it at the center of the 'Dawn of DC', with new stories by top-tier talent.

The new volume, called Batman: The Brave and The Bold, will be an ongoing anthology title launching in May, featuring new Batman stories in addition to stories from across the DCU. The 64-page first issue features the beginning of a new Batman/Joker story by Tom King and Mitch Gerads, as well as a new Batman: Black and White story written and drawn by Batman/Superman: World’s Finest artist Dan Mora, and two new serials teasing the future of the wider DCU.

One of those serials, 'Down with the Kings' continues a plot thread from last year’s Wildstorm 30th Anniversary Special, with Ed Brisson and Jeff Spokes following Director Bones and his new StormWatch team as they continue their mission to take down some of the world’s most powerful superpowered beings without anyone noticing — but, of course, things aren’t going to go that smoothly.

The final story in the first issue, 'The Order of the Black Lamp,' comes from Christopher Cantwell (Iron Man, Hellcat) and Javier Rodriguez (The Defenders) as Superman discovers a decoder ring with a secret message that will uncover mysteries from not only the DCU as a whole, but Superman’s past specifically. But… what kinds of secrets?

Fans will have to wait until May 16 for the answer to that question; the first issue of the series will feature a cover from Simone Di Meo, as well as variant covers from Jim Cheung, Frank Cho, Bryan Hitch, and Nathan Szerdy. Take a look at the covers in the gallery below.
