Aquaman 2 can't handle the unstoppable fury of Willy Wonka, apparently
In the fight between chocolate and water, we finally have a winner
For those playing along at home, the king of the seven seas has just turned (fish)tail and run away from a fight… with a guy that makes candy for a living. Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that Jason Momoa’s final outing as Aquaman has been pushed out two days in order to make more space for… Willy Wonka?
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will now, according to the revised WB calendar, hit theaters on December 22, 2023, instead of the previously announced December 20; this gives the movie only three days to make a dent in the holiday schedule before the arrival of another big Warner Bros holiday movie, The Color Purple, which is released December 25.
The last-minute decision to move Aquaman helps yet another WB holiday tentpole, the Timothée Chalamet vehicle Wonka, which tells of the origin story of the candyman from Roald Dahl’s classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory novel. That movie is released December 15, meaning that the new Aquaman date gives it two more days to dominate the December box office before potentially getting toppled by the final movie in the DC Expanded Universe.
As Variety points out, the surprisingly tight release of big tentpoles for Warner Bros — three in a 15 day span — follows a period of notable inactivity for the studio, which hasn’t released a movie since September’s The Nun II. Clearly, Warners really wanted to avoid the space surrounding the release of Five Night’s at Freddy’s…
Everything you need to know about the second Aquaman movie is right here.
