And the winners of the Angoulême International Comics Festival 2024 are...

See who's taking home accolades at the number one European comics festival this year

As Europe's premiere comics festival wound down, fans and creators gathered for the annual Angoulême International Comics Festival Awards, celebrating the best of the best in comicdom. In 2024, nearly one hundred comic creators were up for an award, and now, we know the select few who are actually taking them home.

Listed below are the winners of this year's prestige recognitions, with the category in which they won highlighted in bold. For clarity's sake, I've listed the English translation of the award first, then the original French, and have done the same with each winner's title. Oh, and by the way - you're going to see the word 'Fauve' a couple times. The word means 'wildcat' and, similar to how the Academy Awards are nicknamed the 'Oscars,' Fauve is the nickname for the Angoulême International Comics Festival Awards.

Without further ado, here are the champions:

  • Golden Fauve Award (Fauve D'or Prix du Meilleur Album) - Monica by Daniel Clowes, published by Delcourt
  • Special Jury Prize (Prix Spécial du Jury) - Hanbok, by Sophie Darcq published by L'Apocalypse
  • Special Jury Prize (Prix Spécial du Jury) - The Little Queens (Les Petites Reines) by Magali Le Huche, published by Arbacane

  • Best New Comic Artist (Prix Révélation) - The Embarrassed Man (L'Homme Gêné) by Mathieu Chiara, published by L'Agrume

  • Fauve for a Thriller Comic (Fauve Polar SNCF) - Contrition by Keko and Carlos Portela, published by Denoël Graphic

  • Favue for a YA Comic (Fauve des Lycéens) - The Face of Pavil (Le Visage de Pavil) by Jeremy Perrodeau, published by 2024
  • Audience Award, sponsored by French public television (Prix du Public France Télévisions) - Evils to Tell (Les Maux À Dire) by Beatriz Lema, published by Arbacane

That's all for Angoulême until next year. However, you can still check out which comics Popverse deemed the best of 2023.
