For years, Oni Press has been releasing some of the most informative and entertaining comic book guides through its Quick & Easy series, including A Quick & Easy Guide to They/Them Pronouns, A Quick & Easy Guide to Queer & Trans Identities, A Quick & Easy Guide to Sex & Disability, and A Quick & Easy Guide to Consent. This fall, the line expands with the addition of perhaps the most wide-reaching book in the series to date: A Quick & Easy Guide to Coming Out.
The new title, written by Kristin Russo — author of This is a Book for Parents of Gay Kids — with cartoonist Ravi Teixeira, intends to cover the gamut of coming out stories, whether it related to sexual expression, gender, or any topic, with publisher Oni’s description of the book reading, “Whether you're queer, trans, questioning, or anything in between, coming out to the folks in your life can be nerve-racking and stressful. Luckily, writer Kristin Russo and cartoonist Ravi Teixeira are here to guide you through the process, no matter where in your journey you are. From finding supportive resources, navigating awkward conversations, and embracing queer joy and community, this guide explores the twists and turns of coming out as every shade of LGBTQ+, helping you walk the path of sharing the truest you.”
The book is “designed to be an evergreen primer for anyone looking for insight or guidance to decide when and how they would like to ‘come out,’” according to the publisher, offering advice on “what it means to “come out,” how it’s viewed by society, and common misconceptions,” as well as covering additional topics such as abuse, anti-LGBTQIA+ violence, and representation. Additionally, the title will include a resource list, and personal reflections from the creators.
The book will be released September 24, but Popverse has an exclusive preview in the gallery below.

Oni Press’s current mission statement is very simple: it’s a publisher that wants to break away from a trend towards “homogenized” comics, according to the people who run the company.
